Selection for the CAPA “Monochrome” competition. Please submit up to two images no later than 5pm Sunday, November 8th.
Send your images to BPSComp@outlook.com. To avoid problems with email software resizing the images, add them as attachments to the email rather than embedding them in the body of the message.
This competition has a very strict editing policies (please refer to the CAPA rules linked below for full details).
A monochrome image must fall into one of these two categories:
A purely greyscale image using only black, white, and shades of grey
A greyscale image that has been uniformly tinted with a single colour across the entire frame (such as sepia, red, or gold toning)
An image is NOT considered monochrome if it:
Has selective colour toning in different areas
Includes spot colouring or partial colourization
Uses multiple tints or tones across different parts of the image
Such images that mix colours or toning effects are considered a monochrome and will be disqualified.
Submitted images must fall within one of the following themes:
Texture & Detail – Images that emphasize the physical qualities of surfaces and materials through close observation of patterns, weathering, organic forms, or man-made structures. From tree bark and rock formations to architectural details and worn objects, submitted image should make viewers want to reach out and touch what they see.
Motion & Stillness – Images that explore the relationship between movement and static elements through techniques like intentional camera movement, long exposure, panning, or freezing action. Could include flowing water, moving crowds, wind-swept landscapes, dancers, working machinery, star trails and celestial motion.
Isolation & Solitude – A lone figure in a landscape, a solitary person in an empty room, a contemplative face against negative space, or even a tight portrait that conveys emotional isolation. This theme inherently invites portraiture while still maintaining the conceptual challenge.
Working Hand – Images that document craftsmanship, labor, and human endeavor through tools, processes, environments, or the evidence of work itself. From agricultural fields and construction sites to artist studios and fishing villages. Images should emphasize the visible connection between people and what they create or maintain.
Most editing techniques are permitted including vignettes. NOT permitted are:
Elements with non-photographic origin
Frames, borders etc.
AI techniques including in-painting (content-aware fill) and out-painting or generative imagery.
The usual size restrictions of 1400x1050 apply (that is, the image must meet one of those dimensions and not exceed either), and maximum file size is 1.8MB.
